The Sentinel Ocean Alliance was set up to create Ocean based opportunities for the underprivileged youth of Hout Bay. These opportunities are economic, social and educational, via instilling a love of the Ocean & the Ocean environment. These opportunities are brought to life via disciplines such as surfing, lifesaving, ocean education etc. Within Hout Bay, we have a beautiful opportunity to integrate youth from diverse communities around these activities. Our aim is to set up a Safe space where kids from these areas can come down and have access to the ocean. Whether it is surfboards or Surf lifesaving we also hope to run some recycling programs from the site and help educate the community about the dangers of pollution and single use plastics in our oceans.
At the moment we have a small green shipping container that we use to store the boards and wetsuits. We hope to however turn that into a clubhouse where the above can take place.
The ocean give us everything! We need to look after it and educate the youth about the importance of recycling.
Bringing engaging and important ocean learning to our youth. We want our kids to learn about ocean life, human interactions with the ocean, and the ocean’s physical geography.
The ocean can be dangerous so training our community to deal with situations when a life is at risk is important to keep our community safe.
We all know how plastic is having a major impact on our ocean. That's why we are setting up a recycling centre in our community to do our part to keep the environment clean.
