FOUNDER & DIRECTOR

Frank has a deep love for our oceans. Being a professional big wave surfer and travelling the world one wave at a time, he has found his second passion here at SOA - conserving the ocean by passing on his love and knowledge to the youth of our coastal communities.

Marguerite Kimberley

OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

Marguerite is a PADI Scuba Diving Instructor and Master Scuba Diver Trainer, freediver, surfer and lawyer. She studied Law at the University of Stellenbosch and after completing her articles at the Legal Aid Board, she worked for a specialist environmental law firm, Smith, Ndlovu & Summers as an Environmental Lawyer.

Kholofelo Sethebe

PARLEY OCEAN SCHOOL EDUCATOR

Kholofelo Sethebe is originally from the landlocked province of Limpopo and holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Biodiversity and Conservation Biology majoring in Marine biology from University of the Western Cape. 

 

Calah Jane Couzens
OPERATIONS MANAGER
Calah from an early age has always found the ocean to be her home and safe place. As she watches  plastic pollution increase her sadness and anger intensifies. Everyday is World Ocean's Day in her eyes.
Juliette Ball

TURNING THE TIDES PROJECT MANAGER

Juliette Ball is a life enthusiast who lives and breathes everything “ocean”! She has followed her passion and adventurous side by participating in global sports events including paddling through the Fjords of Greenland, swimming around Cape Point in a team of 7 taking 36 hours and paddling at night all for charity. 
Micah Sarkas

DIRECTOR

Micah is an impact investor and social entrepreneur. He has over 15 years of experience throughout Africa in venture capital, impact investing, investment banking and was CEO for one of the world's first private sector companies focused on Land Rights in Africa. 

Edward Millatt
DIRECTOR
Edward is the Director and Manager of a Fish and Seafood processing plant. Growing up along our country's coastline he developed a strong  passion for ocean based activities including surfing and fishing. He joined SOA as a director in an advisory capacity to assist with set-up and administrative requirements. He hopes through his involvement to inspire the under privileged to participate in sustainable ocean based activities.
Shaun Fairhurst

MEMBER

Shaun qualified as an accountant in the UK and moved back to South Africa in early 2011. He brings with him a keen focus on the numbers along with his passion of being in the water when he is not working. Shaun shares SOA's vision of inspiring young people to build their communities through the interaction between the ocean and land.

Julien Rumbelow

MEMBER

Julien has a degree in economics (UCT) and an MBA (UCT) with an economics research thesis on the apple industry export value chain/ecology. He has 20 years experience in Research management, financial services and risk management where he has focused on innovation and business strategy. 

Nathan Sarkas

MEMBER 

Nathan is SOA's in-house legal advisor. He is an admitted attorney and specialised in Maritime Law. He has been a part of SOA from the beginning. He has a BA & LLB from the University of Cape Town, and a Master’s degree in Maritime Law from Tulane University in New Orleans, USA.

Bruce Tedder

MEMBER

Bruce is a lifelong surfer, sailor and ocean adventurer living in Hout Bay. For the past 30 years he has been very involved in the yacht broking and boating business in Cape Town and was privileged to be one of the founders of the original Robben Island Ferry Company in 1997.
